Potassium and High Blood Pressure

Ever wonder why we crave for certain foods at certain times?  I'm not talking about sudden craving for, say, donuts, which I would probably consider an unhealthy craving.  I'm talking about whole, natural foods here.  When we do crave for those, sometimes, it could be our body's subtle way of telling us we need certain nutrients.  Don't you find that fruit plate above quite inviting?  I do.  I see the words antioxidant and Vitamin C hidden among the grapes, strawberries, orange slice and everything else on the plate.

Ever since I could remember, I love these fruits, in order of preference:

Would it be right to say that a happy person is also generally a healthier person? I'd like to think that way. After all, a positive attitude contributes to overall health and well-being. Personally, I find that simply thinking about the things that make me happy is enough to bring out that smile, to lift up my spirits and feel blessed. I guess, you'll agree with that.

So, here are the things that make me HAPPY:

Kiwifruit and Hypertension

I may sound naive here, but I've only seen it in pictures and on T.V.  Yesterday was the first time I have ever eaten a kiwi.

Hold on, that's not what I had (who put that picture in there? lol!). But it looks a lot like that minus the feet, beak, and most of the head. I wonder if they eat kiwis in New Zealand hehhehe.

More Ideas for Office Workouts

It's a cold, windy day as there is a typhoon somewhere in the country. I have not checked where it will traverse exactly but I'm feeling the effects. I woke up earlier at around two in the morning because of the gusty wind and strong rain beating on my windows.  No, this is not your weather girl hahaha! I just like to point out that today is a perfect day to curl up in bed and be lazy.  But I got work on a Saturday so I already got up (grudgingly) at past five in the morning to get ready.

I Thought I Was an Apple

Since I started losing weight and after hitting my goal weight, I noticed just a tad of curve around the midsection. I said just a tad because I still need to work around my middle part where the hard-to-lose fat is located.  So yeah, I am trying to sculpt my midsection and letting those abdominal muscles re-surface.  Last time I saw them was probably a decade ago when I was living a more active lifestyle and I still live with my mom who cooks healthier foods.  Now I get to see her about two weekends in a month so I'm left to fend for myself and as I have mentioned before, I was not exactly choosing healthy foods.

Workplace Workout

Some months ago, my colleagues and I went scouting for gyms nearby the workplace. We figured it would be cool to go to the gym together after work. Doing activities together is one good way to motivate one to pursue fitness.  But most of those gyms we found are the kind that caters more for men who wanted to only pump irons and build bulky muscles.  One gym offered aerobic-yoga classes so we tried that one.  We lasted for a few sessions but the desire to come back soon fizzled.  Well, for one, in terms of overall hygiene, the facility is not well maintained.  We gave it a try, hoping things would improve since it's newly established, but we realized the owner have no plans of improving things anytime soon.  So we simply stopped going there.

Other nice looking gyms are ,as expected, more expensive and beyond our respective budgets.  Also, most of them are not within the vicinity so that would mean additional expenses in terms of transport fare, not to mention being too tired to travel after a workout.  I have not given up though.  Something would turn up later, but what to do in the meantime?  We can't put off fitness for that long.  At least on my part, I cannot afford to just stand by and wait for the guava to fall from the tree.  My health is ticking!

If you're like me who spends most of my waking hours in the office, I figured it would be a good idea to incorporate some workouts during the day instead of just sitting behind the office desk.  When it comes to health and fitness, I should find more ways of going about it, like this woman.  Cool huh?

I Am Down to My Target Weight...Now What?

After a few months of striving to eat healthier and being more active, I have finally reached my target weight. Now, 5 lbs may not be such a feat to those who are trying to lose more than that, but losing that extra 5 lbs for me meant changing my current life style and mindset without starving myself or driving myself nuts with all those exercises I had to do. I took the route of doing it slowly and as less stressful as possible. Remember that I am actually trying to normalize my blood pressure more than getting that hourglass figure. I needed to lose as much extra flabs as possible and leave just enough for normal body function.

I am now left with a question that I am sure many have already asked: "I have lost all the extra pounds...now what?"  I got various answers from Mr. Google, from stretch marks to sagging skin to how to maintain the weight and prevent backsliding.  Well, one wouldn't probably have that problem with just a measly 5 lbs of weight lost.  I kept reading until my eyes hurt with all those search results.  Decided to stop for a while because I am already teary-eyed hahaha!
