{Fit and Strong Day 4}: Strong Shoulders

The shoulder muscles are what we call the deltoids, composed of the anterior, posterior, and lateral muscle fibers.  I think that it is important to have strong shoulder muscles because these are what support our arms, and we do a lot with our arms, right?  Swimmers need strong shoulders for propulsion.  Runners (like me) also benefit from strong shoulders even if running is more of leg work, as strong shoulders promote good posture.  Have you ever seen a good runner with a bad posture?  I didn't think so.  Most athletic activities depend on strong shoulders for better performance, such as in martial arts and boxing, to name a few.

I have chosen here three favorite shoulder workouts, the ones that use dumbbells.   I think I'm going to try these, right now.  Care to join me?

Dumbbell  front raise

Bent over lateral raises

Closures on head

How does that feel?  Energizing right?

Since I can't carry much the dumbles we have at home ( only hubby use them, hehe) I use the mineral water bottles instead sis. :)

  3. I like exercises with the shoulders... BUT, first, I have to start out exercising.... wanted to start, but always delaying. Now, with the Zamboanga Crisis, the Zumba classes stopped because everyone wants OR needs to go home early!

  4. Those are good weights substitute sis. The idea is to provide resistance and you're getting that with filled-up mineral water bottles. :-)

  5. I also suggested this to Mom Maye instead of the 10 pound dumb bells...

  6. Yup...we women don't really need very heavy weights (unless we're trying for bodybuilding). :-)
