Two Hundred Squats Update

Two hundred squats challenge

So how am I doing with the challenge?  I'd say so far ,so good.  I'm done with the first week and proceeding to the second week now.  There was already an increase in the repetitions per set.

First day of the 2nd week was yesterday and wow!  After the 5 sets with a maximum of 20 reps each, I could see sweat on my forehead and half of my face. It felt really great!

As we know, squats mainly target the thigh and leg muscles and the gluteus maximus or glutes.  There was a question on my previous post from Gaylee of House of Gaylee regarding the effect of squats on belly fat.  Her question reminded me that during my squats, I felt that muscle burning feeling mainly in my thighs.  Surprisingly, during the last two sets of the routine, I also felt my tummy getting hot.  It's then that I realized that it could also be doing something for the abs!  Can you believe that?  But not just relying on what I felt, I did a little research and this article did shed some light to this claim.  So it is not an unfounded feeling after all.  It does affect the abs and essentially, the whole body!

Oh I'm loving this challenge even more.  I think that even after I accomplish this, I'll continue to do squats as part of my workout routine.  In fact, I may even start with another challenge together with this.  I'm looking at starting the one fifty dips challenge sometime soon.  That way, I am working the lower body as well as the upper body.  It's time for some arm-toning exercises.

  4. Just do things on your own pacing Reese. If not squatting, then something else that will not be too much for you. :-)

  8. So proud of you!~
Yes it does affect the abdominal muscles as well. When you squat the thigh muscles maintain the (squat) position while your ab muscles keep your upper body balanced.

  11. Had I known that, I would have done this a long time ago. I could also sometimes feel a burning sensation at the lower back...teehee I hope the back fat melts away too. At least now I know that when I have questions about muscles and all, I could ask you for free lol!

  20. It's nice to see an update from you, I haven't started yet because I don't know how it will affect my back problem. So i figured I'll wait til I'm pain free before I start. Or perhaps I could ask my therapist if squats would harm me or not. Thanks for the inspiration you provide!

  23. I'm impressed. I hope one day I can find a regular exercise regimen to get my butt off the chair. For now, I walk instead to taking public transpo. It is like hitting two birds with one stone: save money and get an exercise. :D

  28. It's only 3x a week. At a given day, depending on your overall condition, you can finish the 5 sets according to the workout plan in less than 10 minutes...
